The major chemical ingredient of Coptis chinensis is umbellatine.
Pharmacological studies found that Coptis Capsule
has wide-spectrum anti-infectious properties.
Anti-bacterial actions: Coptis Capsule can strongly suppress
Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Vibrio comma, and Bacillus
dysenteriae. It can also suppress Hay
bacillus, Pneumobacillus, Bacillus diphtheriae, Bordetella pertussis,
Brucellaceae, and Mycobacterium
tuberculosis. Its potency is roughly equal to or stronger than that of
sulfanilamide and slightly weaker than that of streptomycin and

anti-cancer, anti-radiation, and blood-sugar-regulatory effects. In
treating chronic hepatitis, its cholagogic (bile-secretion-facilitating)
effect is especially useful.
Toxicity: Coptis Capsule is a very safe herbal remedy, with
virtually no side effects. Long-term use has not caused any adverse
