Pharmacology:

·     Hypericin is the active ingredeint of St. John;s wort. This herb has been used for centuries to treat mental disorders and is very popular in Europe. In Germany it is the most popular treatment for depression. In China Hypericum has been used for treating viral hepatitis. It has liver-protective effects and can help lower liver enzyme levels.

·     Camellia sinensis (green tea) contains derivatives of xanthin, such as theophyline and caffeine, that carry the main pharmacological effects of green tea. They have excitatory effects on the higher central nervous system and have mental incitation effects to make people think faste. They can alleviate fatigue. They are also antioxidants, which protect the cell membrance from viral infection.

·     Acorus has both sedative and incitative effects. Its effects are determined by the state of the central nervous system of the patient, depressed, the herb can be a incitantia and when it is excited, the herb has sedative effects.

·      Menthae Herba in TCM is used for “promoting circulation of qi and alleviation of mental depression.”
